Strabane RFC hosts annual Cricky Hamilton Memorial Cup

THE Cricky Hamilton Memorial Cup took place on New Year's Day.

The game was organised by Strabane RFC in memory of the late Christopher 'Christy' Hamilton, also known as 'Cricky'.

The father-of-four, of Lisdoo Road, Strabane, passed away suddenly at home in September 2023 after he suffered a heart attack.

A former player and captain of Strabane Rugby Club, the tournament was held at Bradley Way featuring a 'Singles' versus 'Married' match.

A large crowd of spectators turned out in support of the event and to see the 'Married' men clinch victory for a second year in-a-row.

They edged a close encounter on a scoreline of 14-12.

The match was followed by an evening of entertainment and a raffle in Strabane Cricket Club, with all funds raised going towards the club's fundraising campaign which has been initiated to help it safeguard its future and finance much-needed new facilities.

The entertainment was provided by Justin McGurk and The Boogie Men.

Thanks is extended to all who took part and contributed to the success of this year's tournament.
