STRABANE RFC have unveiled former Ireland, Munster and British and Irish Lions scrum-half, Conor Murray, as their new club ambassador.
The club had teased fans just before Christmas promising "something very special", and on Sunday came the much-anticipated reveal.
"Strabane Rugby Club is on Cloud Nine," the club said alongside a video announcing Murray's new role.
"We are honoured to welcome Conor Murray to the club in the role of club ambassador.
"You can get a real sense of the excitement we're talking about by checking out Conor's new book (Cloud Nine - My Life in Rugby), now available on Amazon."
Murray, who has played alongside some legendary figures in the world of rugby union, clocked up 125 caps for Ireland winning five Six Nations titles and four Triple Crowns, including two Grand Slams in 2009 and 2018.
He made over 200 appearances for Munster, winning two major titles.
Murray also played eight Tests for the Lions across three tours in 2013, 2017 and 2021.
Securing the Limerick man is a huge coup for the Strabane club which has major ambitions to develop further, most notably as it seeks to secure new club grounds.
Speaking of his new role within the club, Murray said: "In the next chapter of my life I'm moving up to the north of Ireland, to Derry where my lovely wife is from.
"I am going to be helping out with Strabane Rugby Club while I'm up there with their Minis - their underage development system - which is very progressive and very exciting for the club.
"I'll also be doing a couple of sessions with the first 15 here and there, just to I suppose impart the little bit of knowledge that I’ve picked up over my 15 or 16 years of playing professional rugby.
"Very excited to be working with the guys up there.
"I spoke to a few of them and they have great plans for the club.
"They're very ambitious with their new home ground and they're really giving it a good go to develop it."
