Ardstraw's Charlie crowned European Champion!

SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD Charlie Black, from Ardstraw, is Northern Ireland's newest European Champion in archery.

Charlie competes for Foyle Valley Archery Club under the tutelage of George Heath, himself a former European silver medallist.

The European Indoor Archery Competition was hosted in Waterford City, Co Waterford, at the SETU Arena over five days, the first time Ireland has hosted the competition.

The event saw 440 archers from 21 European countries compete for titles and medals.

Charlie has added a European crown to his past titles of UK Champion and Regional Championships which he will defend this year.

He missed setting a new European indoor record by five points set in 2018.

The Northern Ireland team as a whole acquitted themselves well bringing home two further silvers and two bronzes.

As for Charlie, the only major title left to hold is a world title which is not beyond his apparent talents.
