LAST week marked a special moment for Strabane Athletic Netball Club as it entered two senior teams into the league for the very first time.

The second team kicked off their campaign in League 6 with an away game against Carrick 2 at the Carrick Amphitheatre on September 28.

The girls put up a fantastic fight, showing real determination and settling their nerves in their first match.

Despite their efforts, Carrick 2 secured the win with a close score of 28–26.

A club spokesperson said: "An incredible debut performance from our team – the future looks bright."

Next up was the club's first team, freshly promoted and drawn against neighbours, City of Derry, and in their home court Melvin Sports Complex.

From the first whistle, Strabane showed focus and determination, carrying that energy through all four quarters.

Despite City of Derry putting in all their efforts it was not enough, with Strabane’s hard work paying off and claiming a 43-30 victory in style.

The spokesperson added: "A huge thank you to the umpires and to everyone who came out to support both of our teams – your encouragement makes all the difference.

"What a way to start the season - history made, and plenty more to come!"
