STC's Adam Ward brings home second place overall at Ironman 70.3 Western Massachusetts

FRESH from his incredible sub three-hour marathon debut in May, Strabane Triathlon Club (STC) athlete Adam Ward made the journey to the USA to compete in Ironman 70.3 Western Massachusetts on Sunday, June 8.

On the morning of the race, Adam was met with the announcement that the swim leg had been cancelled due to water quality.

No less, Adam delivered a phenomenal performance, completing the 90km bike in a blistering time of 2:08:29 - the fastest bike split of the day, averaging 42 km/h.

The Loughash athlete moved briskly through transition and on to the 21km run, which he completed in a rapid time of 1:19:11 - the third fastest run split of the day.

He crossed the finish line in 3:30:19 and secured second place overall and first place in his age category (M25 -29).

"This is an absolutely incredible result for the Tyrone athlete and offers just a glimpse into the sheer dedication and passion that Adam has towards his sport," a club spokesperson said.

"Massive congratulations go out to Adam from everyone at Strabane Triathlon Club for this achievement, and there is no doubt that there will be many more to come throughout his exciting upcoming 2025 triathlon season.
