FOYLE Hospice is encouraging people across the North West to write or update their will during Make a Will Month, helping families put clear plans in place while raising vital funds for specialist palliative care.
Throughout March, participating local solicitors will kindly waive their usual will writing fee in return for a suggested £100 donation to Foyle Hospice.
This support helps the hospice continue providing care and comfort to people living with terminal and life-limiting illness, and to those close to them.
This year, Foyle Hospice is also extending the campaign beyond its usual March window, with McCay Legal offering Make a Will Month appointments in April, giving people extra time to take part.
A story many families will recognise... It often starts with something small; a folder of paperwork, a half finished note, a conversation that never quite gets completed.
Then, at the point a family most needs clarity, they are left trying to piece together what someone would have wanted.
A will cannot remove grief, but it can remove uncertainty. It can make space for families to focus on what matters, rather than forms, timelines and unanswered questions.
Kathleen Bradley, legacy fundraiser at Foyle Hospice, said: "Making a will is one of those things we all mean to do ‘someday’.
"Make a Will Month is that prompt to do it now... properly, with support from local solicitors who are donating their time to help our community.”
She added: "There is never any pressure to leave a gift to Foyle Hospice. But if, after looking after your loved ones, you decide to include us, you will be creating a legacy that stays in your community.
"It helps people with life-limiting illness live as well as possible, for as long as possible, with dignity, care and support around them.”
Kathleen also thanked the local solicitor firms who continue to back Make a Will Month and help it grow year on year:
“We’re genuinely grateful to the solicitors who give their time and expertise so generously," she said.
"Their support has helped Make a Will Month grow each year, and it has made it easier for more people to take this important step.”
