A STRABANE family whose altruistic endeavours have resulted in over £1 million being raised for various charities have been named 'Fundraiser of the Year'.

The Mullen family - Paul, Rosemarie and their daughter, Sarah-Jane - were recognised for their tireless voluntary work at the inaugural Pride of Tyrone Awards.

Various charities, including Foyle Hospice, Marie Curie, Alzheimer's Society and many, many others, have benefitted from their fundraisers which have included 'Strictly Come Dancing' shows, coffee mornings, draws, quizzes and an annual climb of Knockavoe Mountain

The family were previously recipients of the Special Recognition accolade at the Spirit of Northern Ireland Awards a number of years ago.

Speaking of the award, they said: "As always, we are extremely humbled to have been nominated and win this award.

"We never do anything for the recognition but appreciate it very much.

"We couldn't do what we do without the support from you. You buy the tickets, you climb the mountains, you come to our events and you sponsor us.

"Strabane is the most generous town and with your continued help, we will continue to support local charities as long as we are able.

"Congratulations also to our fellow Strabane winners, Sinead McDermott and Corin Kelly Herron, worthy winners in their categories too.

"A great night for Strabane."
