Lobby for lighting provision along Courtrai Park walkway

A SITE meeting has been held to press for the provision of lighting along the walkway at Courtrai Park in Strabane.

Local Sinn Féin councillor, Brian Harte, explained that following representations from residents of Church View, Courtrai Park and the Curlyhill area, he arranged an onsite meeting with council officers to lobby for the lighting.

He said that many of the residents of the area are elderly and need to use the route regularly.

Speaking following the meeting, councillor Harte said: "Most of the walkway has no lighting.

"This continues to be a health and safety concern for anyone walking through the park at night or early morning, not least for elderly residents who access the local shop, chapel and health centre along this route.

"From this site meeting council officials agreed to undertake a survey and bring back a report to council on the issue."

Councillor Harte said he also made representations on a number of other general maintenance and tree pruning issues affecting residents of the area.
