Donemana community litter pick a huge success

LOCAL residents came together in force recently to take part in a successful litter pick in Donemana, collecting over a dozen bags of rubbish which had been dumped along the roads of the village and surrounding area.

Armed with gloves, bin bags and litter pickers, participants spread out across the village to collect plastic bottles, food wrappers, cans and other discarded items.

Organised by the Drummond Centre, Dennett Interchange and YouthAction NI, the event took place last month and thanks to the efforts of the team, the area is now much cleaner and greener.

Davd Buchanan, Drummond Centre director, said the event was a resounding success.

"The Drummond Centre Project Ltd, in partnership with Dennett Interchange and Youth Action, held a successful community litter pick on Saturday, October 11," he said.

"The event saw a team of committed volunteers working together to clean up the village and surrounding rural by-roads.

"In total, between 15 and 20 bags of litter were collected - a fantastic effort that made a real difference to the local environment."

The litter pick was followed by lunch at the Drummond Centre giving the team a chance to relax.

David added: "After the clean-up, volunteers enjoyed a light lunch back at the Drummond Centre.

"A special thank you goes to Hilltop Café for kindly providing the food, and to Derry City and Strabane District Council (DCSDC) for supplying the litter picks, bags and arranging for the collection of all rubbish.

"Thank you to everyone who took part and supported the event. Your efforts are greatly appreciated."
