KIND-hearted staff at Asda Strabane, inspired by a colleague, have baked their way to £300 for charity as part of the retailer’s Tickled Pink campaign this Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Proceeds go directly to charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel! to fund better treatments, education and life-changing support for everyone who needs it.

Margaret McConnell, who recently marked 20 years cancer free after being diagnosed with breast cancer in her 40s, was a driving force behind the team's fundraising efforts.

She said: “Asda does a lot of good for the communities we live and work in, but Tickled Pink is a campaign especially close to my heart.

"The funding does a huge amount of good and offers hope to people facing a breast cancer diagnosis.

“When that news arrives, it can be incredibly daunting, but it’s important to know that there are lots of us out there doing what we can to offer support - and crucially, that there is light at the end of the tunnel.”

Margaret added: “Asda and the team in Strabane have been a huge help over the years.

"A supportive workplace and great colleagues make a world of difference when times get tough.

"I can’t thank them enough for their ongoing support.”

This year marks a major milestone for the Tickled Pink campaign as it hits a staggering £100 million raised over the past 29 years.

Emma Kelly, Community Champion at Asda Strabane, added: “This campaign is one that really brings the whole team together, and Margaret plays a really special part.

"She is an amazing colleague and goes above and beyond every year for our Tickled Pink campaign.

"This year, she baked some fabulous treats for our bake sale, and she’s been here throughout the month cheering us on with our fundraising efforts.

"A huge thank you to Margaret, not just for the cakes and all her hard work with this campaign, but for being an inspiration to all of us here at Asda Strabane.”
