AFTER months of repairs following severe damage caused during Storm Éowyn, Strabane Controlled Primary School officially reopened its main hall.

The roof of the Assembly Hall was heavily damaged during the powerful - and record-breaking - storm which swept through the region in January of this year.

On Thursday, October 9, the school proudly hosted the official opening of its newly refurbished hall marking a significant milestone in its recovery from the damage.

The event brought together pupils, staff, governors, Education Authority (EA) representatives, contractors, and special guests to celebrate the transformation of this vital space.

The ceremony also featured piano performances by Dr Ryan, gifted by Ulster University, and a touching rendition of Bruno Mars hit 'Count on Me' by the school choir.

The roof has not only been repair and the hall refurbished, but it now boasts upgraded lighting, sound systems, stage enhancements as well as improved facilities throughout the school.

School principal, Mrs Cherith Thompson, paid tribute to the resilience and adaptability of pupils and staff, who continued school life without the hall for two terms.

She said: "The new hall stands as a symbol of unity, creativity, and the school’s enduring spirit.

"Pupils, staff and guests were invited to enjoy refreshments and celebrate the beginning of a new chapter in the school’s journey."

She also extended thanks to the EA Maintenance Team and contractors for their tireless efforts and collaborative approach.
