SUPERMARKET retailer Tesco is set to open a store in Strabane.
Derry City and Strabane District Council's Planning Committee gave the proposed development the green light when it met this afternoon (Wednesday) to discuss the plan for the £1.4m Tesco Express store on Melmount Road.
Planners had recommended that councillors approve the application for the erection of a 2,422 sq ft retail unit with an associated service yard and car park.
The development will be situated on a vacant site in front of existing retailers Home Bargains, Lynas and Winemark, within the Kennedy Retail Park complex.
The application had been submitted by the family behind the Kennedy Centre in Belfast - HJS Developments.
Tesco currently has around 57 stores across NI and this will the supermarket's first-ever store in West Tyrone.
In a report supporting the application it is estimated the new store will create 20 jobs and generate around £2.34 million in annual turnover.
Nine objections had been received from six separate postal addresses within the vicinity of the planned store.
