STRABANE Greenways are encouraging members of the public to respond to a Department of Infrastructure (DfI) consultation on future active travel works in Strabane.
The consultation is open until February 28.
Strabane Greenways member, Shaun McGlade, said: "The Active Travel Delivery Plan consultation is an opportunity for members of the public to let government know what improvements they want to see to help make the town a safer place for cyclists and pedestrians.
“Strabane Greenways met with Department of Infrastructure and council officials last week to discuss the proposals.
"We welcome not only the inclusion of the proposal in the draft plan of the new cycling and pedestrian bridge from the bus station to Strabane’s Main Street but also new greenway connections from the bus station to the A5 - past the playing fields - and to the Bridgend.
"This is something that we have been calling for and will create a stretch of quiet greenway that will create an A5 - bus station - Melvin pedestrian linkage when delivered.
“We have also outlined that the flagship Strabane to Sion Mills greenway, which will link directly to the new active travel bridge needs to be included in this new plan given the huge support this project has in the community and the obvious public health and economic benefits it will bring to the town.”
