SINN Féin MLA., Maolíosa McHugh and councillor Caroline Devine, have held an onsite meeting with DFI Roads Service in Victoria Bridge to discuss ongoing speeding and other traffic safety concerns raised by local residents.

A statement from the elected representatives following the meeting last week said: “Following previous representations, remedial work was carried out to speed ramps in an effort to reduce the speed of vehicles. Speed Indicators were also located on both the Melmount Road and Fyfin Roads to assess driving behaviour within these ‘traffic calmed’ areas.

“However, speeding traffic and other traffic safety issues are continuing issues of concern for local residents. Following Friday’s meeting at which we raised these issues, Roads Service agreed to conduct traffic assessments on the Fyfin Road and at St Eugene's PS.

“We also pressed for the installation of bollards on the bridge to prevent lorries parking there and obscuring the sightline for motorists coming onto the A5 from the Fyfin Road slip road.

“Drivers also need to take responsibility and ensure they drive within the speed limits and have respect for other road users and this needs once again highlighted."
