LOCAL Sinn Féín councillor, Caroline Devine, says that the MUGA pitch in Newtownstewart is re-opened and is now available for open play following complaints that it was locked and young people were being denied access to it.
Councillor Devine, who represents the Derg DEA on Derry City and Strabane District Council, said: "I've had a number of complaints from parents in Newtownstewart that the council owned MUGA was locked and young people were being denied access to it.
“I'm delighted to announce that following a very productive meeting with council officers, local sports organisations and community groups the facility is now available again for open play.
“There is some damage to a fence around the facility which is also being addressed.
“This is a great resource in our community that should be fully utilised but it is important that all users take responsibility and leave it as they found it.
"Please dispose of your rubbish responsibility and leave this facility in a manner that others can use it.”
