James claims Ultra Final honours

THE 12th annual Ultra Final was played at Newtownstewart Golf Club at the second attempt on Sunday and the weather was kind on this occasion.

James Colgan was the winner with Cathal Devine runner-up and Francie McGranaghan third.

Clement Crees won the Gross prize.

A club spokesperson said: "A huge thanks to Sean McGuigan and the ULTRA team for a fantastic day and their generous sponsorship and continued support for this very popular event and all the qualifier events which punctuate our season."

Saturday’s competition at Newtownstewart was a ‘Play in Pink’ Champagne Scramble in aid of captain Eddie and lady captain Carmel’s cancer charities.

The winning team comprised vice captain Seamus Byrne, Stephen Moss, Jim Doherty and Hugh Coyle with an impressive 98 points.

Second were John and Christine Lynch, Gaye Lyons and Alison McGrath on 93 points and in third place on a break-of-tie were Leonard and Conor Devine with Donald McHugh and Rhys Donnell who scored 92 points.

The ladies contested the Senior Cup and Novice Cup last Thursday.

Eilish Armstrong continued her good recent form to win the Senior Cup and Denise McCaffrey took the honours in the Novice Cup.

Hazel Allen won the Club Prize with Gerarda Fitzpatrick runner-up. The Nine-hole winner was Trish McKean.
