Sunshine prevails during Lady Captain Carmel's big Day at Newtownstewart

LADY Captain’s Day was played at Newtownstewart on Saturday in bright sunshine with a good breeze keeping the ladies comfortable and the scoring competitive.

Angela Gormley McGlynn was a popular winner with a fine 66 nett off 19. Hazel Faithfull was two strokes back in second with Karen Ballantine taking the gross prize and Joyce Thompson third.

The list of other prize-winners is shown below but notable this year was the prize for Best Boyfriend - Jim Doherty.

The Gentlemen Guests prize was won by captain Eddie Cartwright with his vice captain Seamus Byrne in second place.

There were section wins for Margaret McCrossan, Valerie Vaughan and Caroline Verner.

Friday evening’s Lady Captain’s Shoot Out was won by Yvonne Armstrong with Hazel Faithfull runner-up.

Last Thursday’s ladies’ competition was the Kemps Newtownstewart Stableford which was won by Mary Cuthbertson with a creditable 39 points off 26 in wet conditions.

Karen Ballantine took the gross and there were section wins for Therese Mullan, Brona Slevin and Ruth Irvine. Denise McCaffrey won the Nine-Hole prize.

Last week’s Ultra qualifiers were John McNamee, John McQuade and Anthony Donnelly.

A special mention to young Conor Gormley McGlynn who had an excellent 41 pts playing of 33. Qualifying concludes this week with the final being played on Sunday 25.
