IT was Open Week at Newtownstewart Golf Club and despite some wet and blustery conditions it was a great week of golf.
"Thank you to our sponsors and everyone who played over Open Week and congratulations to all the prizewinners," a spokesperson said.
Saturday saw Paul Catterson win the Claret Jug in the Coulter Photography Open Stroke competition.
In very windy conditions Paul scored an excellent 62 Nett off 23 to take home this signature trophy.
Steven Galbraith took the gross prize and there were division wins for Philip O’Donnell, Adrian Hamilton and Andrew Marshall.
Sunday’s competition was an Open Stableford sponsored by ULTRA Building Products. The clear winner was Ciaran McGarvey with a remarkable 48 points off 23.
There were section wins for Keith Pollock, Richard Killen and James Loughran.
On Tuesday the Cheeky Fox Restaurant sponsored a Mixed Foursomes contest with the Fairview Rosebowl at stake.
It was won by Adrian and Gillian Hamilton with brother and sister, Danny and Carmel Glackin, in second place and Ian Black and Joyce Thompson in third.
Wednesday was the usual men’s Open Stableford and ULTRA Qualifier.
The three section winners were Alan Gilfillan, John Armstrong and Emmet McGuire who go forward to the final at the end of August.
The ladies competition on Thursday was an Open Stableford sponsored by Bradley’s Pharmacy.
Yvonne Armstrong won the top prize with 39 points off 27 narrowly defeating Jacqueline McDaid in second place and Mary Cuthbertson in third while the gross was won by Karen Ballantine.
There were section wins for Caroline Ballantine, lady xaptain Paula Devine and Anne Nugent (Omagh). Denise McCaffrey won the Nine hole.
On Friday the club hosted an Open Four-Person Scramble sponsored by Dimac Sportsground which was very closely contested.
The winners were Mark McNamee, John McNamee, Danny Glackin and Seamus Byrne with a 57 Nett off a combined 7 handicap.
They defeated Clement Crees, Gary McHugh, Keith McMenamin and Piaras Boyle with a combined handicap of 5 on break of tie.
The spokesperson added: "Looking ahead, we have another packed programme this week with our Seniors 12-hole competition on Monday followed by the regular Mixed 12-hole Foursomes on Tuesday evening and the ULTRA Qualifying Mens Open Stableford on Wednesday.
"This Thursday we have the Ladies Pro-Physio Stableford and on Friday we have a Four-Person Classic format Open team event.
"Saturday’s competition is our ever-popular Pat Kirk Open Stableford followed on Sunday by the Menary’s Open Stroke."
