IT was a historic night for Urney St Columba's GAA as the club launched its Grand Development Draw - the biggest in its history.

The event was a proud moment for everyone connected to the club as members, players and supporters gathered to unveil ambitious plans to transform the future of Urney GAA.

Over the coming months, the club is aiming to raise record funds that will transform the club facilities and infrastructure.

"This is about more than a draw - it's about ensuring Urney has the facilities, resources and opportunities to match the ambition of our players and our community," a club spokesperson said.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Ruairí McHugh, also recently visited St Columba’s Primary School in Clady, where he met representatives from thr club and, most importantly, the children who will benefit most from the ambitious development project.

Pupils from St Columba’s PS, St Teresa’s PS, Glebe and the Happy Faces Playgroup, which is based on the grounds of Páirc Naomh Columba, joined in welcoming the Mayor.

The visit provided an opportunity for the Mayor to show his full support for the club’s vision to enhance local facilities and invest in the next generation of players and community members.

Also in attendance were members of the Clady Cross Community Development Association who are also supporting the club’s ambitions.

Mayor McHugh commended the club for its long-standing contribution to sport and community life in the North Tyrone area.

Development Draw coordinator, Sean McDevitt, welcomed the Mayor describing the initiative as “a project that will make a real difference for local families and future generations.”

The club will now continue to build momentum following the successful launch of the Development Grand Draw as part of its lead-up to the 80th anniversary celebrations in 2026.

Founded in 1946, Urney St Columba's is the oldest existing GAA club in the North Tyrone area, with a proud legacy built on community spirit and commitment.

The Development Draw offers the chance to contribute directly to this exciting new chapter.

Tickets for the Development Draw are priced at £20 each, three for £40 of ten for £100.

Club representatives will soon be out with “their feet on the street” selling tickets.
