MOUNTJOY United has announced that Magheramason man, John Elliot,t has been appointed their new first team manager.
Former Newbuildings player John, who during his career played professionally in Scotland's top flight with Dundee, met his new group of players and took his first training session last week.
He took charge for Saturday’s Division One clash at home to Lisbellaw United which ended on a 0-0 draw.
The club wish to go on record to thank previous first team manager David Rennie who stood down earlier in the season as well as interim boss David Gilfillan.
Both men's work for the club should not go unnoticed.
Elliott has had recent managerial stints at Newbuildings and Foyle Wanderers and Mountjoy chairman, Sydney Gilfillan, is delighted that the Magheramason man has joined the setup at Lisnagirr Road.
“John has a good pedigree and he ticks many of the boxes for us,” he said.
“We have been talking to him for some time and we are delighted to confirm his appointment.
“After approaching him he did his research on the club and we were impressed by his honesty as much as anything else. He is under no illusions about the challenge that lies ahead.”
The chairman also put on record his thanks to the two Davids, Rennie and Gilfillan.
“David Rennie had to call it a day because of other commitments and David Gilfillan stepped in to keep the thing going until we got someone in permanently," he said.
"I want to thank both men on behalf of the club,” continued the chairman.
Currently 11th in Fermanagh and Western Division One, Mountjoy will be looking for an improved second half of the season after collecting just six points from their opening 12 games.
