Tarlach Mac Giolla Bhríde explores the placenames of Strabane

AS part of this year’s Irish Language Week 2026 programme, Tarlach Mac Giolla Bhríde hosted a talk in Strabane Library on Friday.

The event explored the place names and townland names of Strabane and delved into the stories, meanings and heritage behind local place-names.

Audience members were given the opportunity to see how the Irish language is woven into the landscape and history of the area.
