A GROUP of learners from Strabane Ethnic Community Association (SECA) have proudly completed a 12-week English language course, marking a major achievement not only for themselves but for the wider local community.
The course was delivered by Sarah Mahon from Clever English, whose supportive and practical teaching approach helped learners build confidence in speaking, reading and everyday communication.
Participants came from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and countries, including Poland, Thailand, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Ukraine, Lithuania and Brazil.
The diversity within the classroom created a welcoming and enriching environment where learners supported one another, shared experiences and built friendships while developing their English skills.
Over the 12 weeks, learners worked on essential language for daily life - from conversations at school and GP appointments to workplace communication and understanding local services.
Many participants said the course has already made a difference to their confidence, independence, and sense of belonging in the community.
For some, it was their first time learning in a classroom setting in the UK.
Completing the course represents not only academic progress but also a personal milestone, showing determination, resilience and a strong desire to integrate and contribute locally.
At the end of the programme, learners were presented with certificates of completion in a special moment of celebration.
Certificates were presented by Bobby Rao, founder of Strabane Ethnic Community Association, and Amanda Bieaga, Good Relations Officer with Derry City and Strabane District Council.
The organisers extended sincere thanks to Derry City and Strabane District Council for funding the programme, making this valuable opportunity accessible to local residents from a range of backgrounds.
A SECA spokesperson said: "Programmes like this highlight the importance of accessible English language support in helping people from different countries feel settled, connected, and empowered.
"The success of this group shows how learning together can break down barriers, build confidence, and strengthen community ties.
"All learners celebrated the end of the programme together - a proud moment for everyone involved."
