Mayor hosts civic reception for Strabane man in honour of his fundraising efforts

A STRABANE man has been recognised for his o fundraising efforts.

For the last six years, Adrian 'Rusty' Crossan has dressed up as Santa for a series of pre-Christmas runs - 'Rusty's 12 Runs at Christmas - to help raise funds for numerous causes including Autism NI, Little Heroes - the charity dedicated to helping young patients at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children and the Rory Carlin Memorial Fund/Koram Centre.

Mr Crossan is often joined on the 8kms runs around the town by fellow runners, raising thousands of pounds for his chosen charity each year.

In recognition of his efforts, Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Ruairí McHugh, held a special reception at the Guidlhall which was also attended by the local man's famly and friends.

Speaking after the event, Mayor McHugh acknowledged Mr Crossan’s hard work and selflessness as he helps many people and charities within the local area.

"It was a pleasure to host a civic reception for Rusty Crossan in recognition of his outstanding fundraising efforts across the Strabane area," he said

"Rusty’s hard work, generosity and selflessness have made a real difference to so many people and charities within our community.

"His commitment to helping others is truly inspiring, and it was an honour to acknowledge his contribution on behalf of Derry City and Strabane District Council."

Mr Crossan received a special memento from the Mayor.

He thanked his family and friends, saying their support has always been the drive and energy that keeps pushing him on.

He also spoke of the enduring generosity of the local community, expressing his gratitude for the continued support for his charity work.
