Sixth annual climb of Knockavoe aids local charities

A GROUP of intrepid walkers have completed the annual climb of Knockavoe Mountain.

Organised by the 'Strictly by M Dancin' team, husband and wife, Paul and Rosemarie Mullen alongside their daughter, Sarah Jane, the event is one of many organised as part of the family's annual programme of fundraisers in a bid to raise as much money as possible for several charities.

The sixth annual climb to the summit of Knockavoe Mountain attracted another large crowd as dozens of walkers turned out in force to enjoy the scenic backdrop provided at the summit.

Speaking from the wind-swept summit of Knockavoe, Paul reiterated thanks to everyone who has helped make the event happen and to those who continue to support the family's continued fundraising efforts.

"On behalf of all the charities, thanks to everybody who took part," he said.

"Every pound you raise goes to local charities. This is our sixth year doing this....See you all next year again."

The benefitting charities include Alzheimer’s Society, Chest, Heart and Stroke, Foyle Hospice, Friends of the Cancer Centre, Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Motor Neurone Disease Association, MS Society and charities supporting elderly care and mental health.

Organisations supporting people with breast cancer, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer and Parkinson's are also supported by the annual fundraising initiative.

The walk is just one of a series of fundraisers organised by Paul and his team, with a successful Halloween bazaar also held.

The next event planned is 'Another Evening with the Stars' at St Patrick's Hall tonight (Wednesday), November 5, featuring top country talent.

The concert will feature performances by Tony Allen (from Foster & Allen), Hugo Duncan, Shawn Cuddy , Country Harmony, Dominic Kirwan, Curtis Magee, Chrissy Mac, Friends and the Strictly Drifters.

Doors open at 7pm with the show at 8pm and tickets are priced at £15 for what is sure to be a brilliant night.
