STRABANE Academy was a sea of pink on Friday as pupils and staff joined together to celebrate the school’s annual Think Pink Day in aid of Cancer Focus Northern Ireland.

This year’s theme, 'Get Your Pink Back', captured the fun and community spirit of the day perfectly.

The event was organised by Mrs Crosbie’s Year 11 King’s Trust classes as part of their Teamwork Unit, and pupils demonstrated exceptional initiative, organisation and leadership throughout.

Festivities began with a bake sale at break time, followed by a lively programme of lunchtime activities including a penalty shoot-out, cricket-ball throw, Zumba session, sponsored roller skate and hoopla.

Adding to the excitement were hair, nail, and face-painting stalls, along with classic fundraising favourites such as Guess the Sweets, Guess the Weight of the Cake and Guess the Teddy Bear’s Name.

Sweet treats and prizes were in abundance thanks to generous community support - with a chocolate fountain kindly sponsored by Artigarvan Spar, popcorn and mascots sponsored by the parents of King’s Trust pupil, Ciara’s, and a raffle hamper donated by Derry Road Spar.

The school was delighted to welcome special guest Mrs Tanya Laird, one of Strabane Academy’s much-loved Learning Support assistants, who helped distribute prizes for the competitions, including the 'Name Our Flamingo' contest - won by Nuala, Year 9, with the creative name 'Flaffy'.

The charity’s representative, Krystle, also praised the pupils during her visit, commenting: "The pupils were so mannerly, pleasant and genuinely engaged throughout the day.

"I was overwhelmed by the attention to detail and the effort that had gone into planning and running the event.

"It was remarkable to see it entirely pupil-led, with each group managing their own stalls so confidently and professionally.”

Reflecting on the success of the day, Mrs Crosbie added: "It was inspiring to see the King’s Trust pupils collaborate effectively and take such pride in supporting an important local cause.

"The event was incredibly well supported by pupils, parents, and staff alike - a real testament to the strong sense of community within Strabane Academy.”

The event concluded with heartfelt closing remarks from principal. Mr Johnston, who proudly announced the fantastic total to date of £2,550 - and counting - raised for Cancer Focus Northern Ireland, which also included proceeds from Mr Sargent’s ‘Hard as Oak’ fundraiser.

He commended the pupils for their teamwork, positivity and compassion before wishing everyone a safe and happy Halloween break.

Once again, Strabane Academy’s Think Pink Day proved that when young people unite for others, they can make a truly meaningful difference.
