A MAYORAL reception has been held for a talented young musician from Plumbridge who has been crowned an All-Ireland champion.

The event at the Guildhall was hosted by Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Ruairí McHugh, to recognise the exceptional talents of Lauren McCullagh.

The teenager won the All-Ireland Championship on piano accordion at the prestigious All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil which was held in Wexford.

It's the latest in a series of accolades obtained by the talented teenager who is also a member of her local GAA club, Glenelly St Joseph's GFC.

Lauren and her family were invited to the council's headquarters last week where the Mayor made a special presentation in recognition of her achievements.

Mayor McHugh said: "It was a real pleasure to host a special reception at the Guildhall to honour Lauren McCullagh, who was recently crowned All-Ireland Champion on piano accordion at this year’s Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.

"Lauren’s incredible achievement is a testament to her dedication, talent and love for traditional Irish music.

"The Fleadh Cheoil is the pinnacle of traditional music in Ireland, and to win at this level is no small feat.

"Lauren's success is a shining example of the wealth of musical talent we have in our district, and I was delighted to recognise her with a civic reception on behalf of the council.

"Huge congratulations again to Lauren - we look forward to seeing what’s next on your musical journey."
