THE North West Mountain Rescue Team (NWMRT) - the lifeline for those in danger across most of Tyrone and Northern Ireland’s rugged landscapes - is on the lookout for recruits to join its ranks of dedicated volunteers.
Covering every corner of Northern Ireland outside the Mournes area, this all-volunteer team plays a critical role in search and rescue operations, often in treacherous conditions and at all hours of the day and night.
Now, they’re calling on adventurous, community-minded individuals to step forward and become part of something extraordinary.
“We are on call 24/7, 365 days a year,” said Keith Thompson, team leader of NWMRT.
“It can be tough, cold, and unpredictable work - but there’s nothing more rewarding than knowing you’ve helped save a life or brought someone home safely.
"We’re a close-knit team, and we’re excited to welcome new members who share that spirit of commitment and adventure.”
Volunteers receive regular training in rope work, abseiling, navigation, first aid, and water safety, gaining valuable life-saving skills while exploring some of Northern Ireland’s most beautiful wild terrain.
The team works alongside other emergency services and partner organisations, including the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team, to respond to emergencies such as missing person searches, mountain accidents, and severe weather rescues.
NWMRT is a registered charity, relying entirely on volunteers and public support to keep operating.
“We’re looking for people with enthusiasm, commitment, and ideally some experience in hillwalking, mountaineering or first aid,” added Mr Thompson.
“But most importantly, we need people who care about their community and are ready to make a difference.”
If you’re aged 18 or over and eager to take on a challenge that truly matters, the North West Mountain Rescue Team wants to hear from you.
The closing date for applications is Friday, October 24, with interviews scheduled for Saturday, November 15.
