DERG Valley Care has been awarded approximately £63,000 in funding under the PEACEPLUS Programme to deliver a new initiative entitled ‘Culture Club’.
Designed to bring together older people from rural communities within the Derg District Electoral Area, the initiative was officially launched last Wednesday.
The Culture Club aims to build friendships, strengthen cross-community connections and support sustainable peace and reconciliation.
Supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB), the Culture Club will run for approximately 18 months and will consist of a number of ten-week programmes which will include lunch complemented by cultural, musical, and historical workshops.
Martin Duffy, CEO of Derg Valley Care, said: "We are absolutely delighted to launch the Culture Club here in Derg Valley Care.
"It will run every Thursday and provide a social space for local people to enjoy a lunch and activities.
"Thanks to the support of the PEACEPLUS Programme, this project will provide older people in our rural community with a place to come together build new friendships, and strengthen cross-community connections.
"At its heart, the Culture Club is about promoting inclusion, wellbeing and reconciliation, and we are excited about the positive impact it will have for our community both now and into the future.
"This project has the potential to create lasting change across the communities in Castlederg."
