Eighth annual Strabane sponsored walk for Leukaemia & Lymphoma NI

Friday 5 September 2025 14:12

THE Strabane fundraising branch of Leukaemia & Lymphoma NI are holding their eighth annual sponsored walk this Friday, September 5.

Just like last year’s successful walk, the route will be setting off from MK's Bar, Derry Road, Strabane at 7pm. Registration will take place from 6.30pm.

The event has become a firm favourite with both regulars and new participants, and organisers are encouraging as many people as possible to lace up their shoes and come out in support of the fundraiser.

Mickey Ferry, who is a committee member of the Strabane branch of Leukaemia & Lymphoma NI, said: “The support each year for this walk has been phenomenal.

"It’s also a delight to see new faces showing up and participating each year.

"On the previous walks, we’ve been so fortunate that the weather was kind to us.

“We’re obviously hopeful that the weather will once again be in our favour.

"The walk offers a real opportunity for everybody to participate, regardless of fitness level, so please spread the word!

"Encourage friends, family, work colleagues and family pets to join you."

He added: "By getting involved you’ll be guaranteed an evening out walking and having a chat and bit of craic with others, and in doing so you’ll also be raising vital funds which will be used to fund blood cancer research.”

Starting at MK's Bar, the 5km walk will proceed out the Derry Road, turn at the bypass, then in towards the Cricket Club entrance, then towards Costa approaching the bridge to Bradley Way.

From there the walk continues to Bridge Street, over the bridge to Market Street back out towards the returning point of MK’s Bar.

Registration is £10 (adult) and £5 (child - under 5's free).

Payment can be made on the night or by visiting: www.leukaemiaandlymphomani.org/shop.

The walk will be followed by a fundraising table quiz in Dicey Riley's, with team registration at 9.30pm.
