ADVERTORIAL

IMAGINE it’s 23 years since the first meeting took place in Rawdons bar on a cold November night and the seed was planted for the first Inishowen Vintage Rally/Show.

What started out as humble beginnings has now grown into one of the biggest and best vintage shows in the North West.

Sadly, we have lost three of our founding members, Willie Doherty, James McLaughlin and Paddy Duffy, but their legacy lives on as the Carrick Field in Moville prepares for it’s 23rd annual show.

To keep a show like that going for so long, it obviously takes dedication, commitment and had work, all of which the committee and volunteers of Inishowen Vintage Club has in abundance.

Club chairman, Noel Doherty said: “A show like this doesn’t happen overnight, you must build on it every year. If you take your foot of the pedal at all then you risk going backwards.”

The show has had its fair share of ups and downs, with the Covid pandemic in 2020 and 2021 causing the club to cancel the show and a tragic accident last year resulting in the show being cancelled at the last minute.

“When something like that happens, it sort of takes the heart out of it and it takes a while for us to gather ourselves together and get back into the swing of things,” explained the club secretary Sammy Lyle, “but you know when you have a good team behind you and the will is there, then there is only one direction and that’s onwards and upwards.”

This year the club is pulling out all the plugs to bring you our best show yet. And if you are up for a fun-filled weekend then Moville on the Inishowen peninsula is the place to be from Friday, June 6, kicking off with Waterloo – ABBA followed by DJ Rudders keeping you on the dance floor until the wee small hours.

On the Saturday night the '2 Bucks' kicks things off in the marquee at 9pm followed by Keltic Knights and if you haven’t seen either of these two acts then you are in for a great surprise because by God, they can fair raise the roof.

Sunday, June 8 is thee day and all roads lead to the Carrick Field for the 23rd annual vintage show and what a day we have in store, as usual there will be 100’s of cars and tractors on display, there will also be lawnmower racing, tug-o-war competition, poitin making, trade stands of all descriptions, a fashion show, craft tent, live music and a woodturning demo.

There will also be cash prize competitions so you can take your chances with sheaf throwing, barrel push and lots more including all the fun at the fair with Starfare amusements.

So, kick start your summer, in the Carrick Field, Moville, Donegal, we’ll be delighted to see you.
