LIFFORD Strabane AC's Finn O'Neill broke the Irish U23 indoor record last weekend in the heptathlon.
O’Neill, who is in the second year of his US collegiate career at University of Texas at San Antonio, was competing at the Silver State Invitational in Reno, Nevada where he accumulated 5261 points in the heptathlon.
He also set six new personal bests (PBs) with his record-breaking performance seeing him beat Daniel Ryan’s Irish U23 record by 161 points.
This score now ranks him second in the Northern Ireland all-time list, and fourth in the Irish all-time list.
He finished second at the Silver State Invitational and Combined Events in Reno Nevada to Estonian teammate Janre Jogi.
Finn’s marks were 60m 7.29 (PB), Long Jump 6.72m (PB) Shot Put 13.62m (PB & 1st Place), High Jump 1.88m (PB), 60m Hurdles 8.52 (PB) Pole Vault 4.15m 1000m 2:45.28.
