ALMOST 200 runners descended on Glenmornan village for the third annual Moorlough Challenge Race sponsored by Ørsted.
Participants were given the option of running a 10 mile or a 10 kilometre challenge, while an inaugural 1km fun run for the children also featured on the programme for the first time.
Adam Ward and Deirdre McGarrigle were the winners of the 10 mile race, with Laurence O’Neill and Ciara Kerrigan taking second place, while Roisin Coyle and Kieran McGill finished third.
The 10km race was won by Aine Devine and Lorcan Kelly, followed closely by Antoine O’Hara and Lucy Christie in second places, and Michael McNulty and Rachel Devenney finishing third.
Meanwhile all 35 participating children were awarded a medal for their sports spirit and contribution to the event.
The annual run, organised by members of Glenmornan Community Association, takes in some of the most scenic areas of the wider Glenmornan area.
The race started in Glenmornan, down the Strabane Road, through Stranisk past the Owenreagh Wind Turbines and finishing with a lap of the Moorlough lake.
Donal Cairns from Glenmornan Community Association said: "The support provided by Ørsted for the third year in a row has really given us the platform to establish the Moorlough Challenge Race as one of our significant annual fundraisers for the local community here in Glenmornan.
"All funds raised from the event go towards Glenmornan Community and facilitate support to engage some of the most vulnerable as well as helping with community events and maintenance.”
Aidan Stakelum, community engagement lead from Ørsted Ireland & UK, added: "Ørsted is committed to being an active partner in the areas we operate, and we recognise the value that Glenmornan Community Association and the Community Hall provides to the locality.
"We are pleased to continue our community support for area and I want to congratulate everyone who played their part in ensuring the third annual Moorlough Race was such a resounding success, and those runners who came along on the day to take part.”
Ørsted has operated six turbines at nearby Owenreagh Wind Farm II since 2008, while Owenreagh I Wind Farm retired in 2024.
The company is progressing plans to develop a new wind energy proposal to repower the Owenreagh I and II Wind Farms, and to modify and extend the consented Craignagapple Wind Farm which received planning permission in 2018 but has yet to be constructed.
Owenreagh Wind Farms’ Community Benefit Fund continues to support a number of local initiatives, including Owen Roes’ GAA Club, Clann na nGael GAA Club, Glenmornan Community Association and installation of a defibrillator at Tristan Road, Evish.
