Brilliant weekend for Strabane AC

STRABANE Athletics Club enjoyed a brilliant day at the Northern Ireland and Ulster Masters Championships held at the iconic Mary Peters Track in Belfast.

"It was a fantastic outing for the club, filled with standout performances, a haul of medals, personal bests (PBs) and above all some exciting firsts for a few of our athletes competing at this level for the very first time," a club spokesperson said.

"The energy, camaraderie and competitive spirit were second to none."

Coach Trev McGlynn brought home triple gold in the 400m hurdles, discus and high jump.

Guisell Di Nucci had a debut to remember with gold in the 100m hurdles, long jump and high jump, silver in the shot putt and eeight for throw with PBs all round on her first time competing at this level.

Leona Garrity was double sprint queen on the day in the 100m amd 200m and was very close to her PB's running very powerful from gun to tape.

Next up was Aideen Millar making her mark. She clinched gold in the javelin, silver in 100m sprint and long jump.

This was also her first big championship, coming home with PBs

The club also had male and female winners at the Jog for Joe 5k with Claire McGuigan taking the overall win and Mickey Duddy finishing second overall and winning the men's title while the club was out in force with lots of PBs and seasons best from members.

Elsewhere, coach Ann-Marie McGlynn finished second in the Dunshaughlin 10k with a great time of 33mins 40 secs in hot conditions before travelling to Tullamore for the All Ireland Children's Games where the club's kids finished eighth in their very first All Ireland Championships with Kohen Hegarty, Eoin Coyle, Cillian Kearney and Travis Enofe all running massive PBs in their sprint races to do Strabane proud and gain valuable experience in competing at this higher level.
