LET'S get ready to RUMBLE!

Final preparations are underway this week ahead of an action-packed 'Macmillan Rumble' fight night being held in the Fir Trees Hotel.

The charity boxing event is in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and is taking place this Friday night.

The 32 boxers, male and female, who are taking part in the event are deep in training and preparing for their big night, where they will go head to head with other charitable souls.

The fundraiser will see 17 bouts of action and, according to the organisers, the crowd are in for a treat! One of the organisers, James McMenamin has described it as "the biggest chariy night Strabane has ever seen." The ultimate goal is to raise 5,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support but the event is expected to surpass that target.

Tickets sold out within hours of going on sale. A raft of fantastic prizes will also be raffled off on the night. For details, see the 'Macmillan Rumble' Facebook page.

If you missed out on getting your hands on one of the coveted tickets, you can still support the event and lend a helping hand by giving to the fund online.

James added: "Three friends have come together to organise the biggest charity night Strabane has ever seen.

"This is going to be a professionally run show from start to finish with fighters safety the main priority.

"We are looking to raise as much money as possible for a great cause. Patrick McCloskey, Ryan (Doc) Doherty and myself have huge plans for this fight night.

"We would like to thank all the people in Strabane for getting behind it.

"We came across the idea after my mother Kathleen sadly passed away last year and wanted to give something back to Macmillan."

As James said it will be a professionally run event from start to finish although of course in true Strabane fashion it will be a bit of craic and there will be some serious, and not so serious fights throughout the night.

The main event has been billed as a bout between Ryan Doherty vs Eugene McCauley with a number of other tasty match-ups between other boxers.

The two coaches who are coaching the fighters, Paul Doherty and Dominic McConnell, will surely not be disappointed with their hard work over the past several weeks.

In a huge coup for the organisers, Strabane MMA icon James 'The Strabanimal' Gallagher is supporting the event and will be making a guest appearance on the night.

The Carlton Drive man who has a pro contract with Bellator MMA is undefeated in his professional career and is doing his native Strabane proud in the big leagues.

James and his coach, John Kavanagh, have supported the event on his various social media platforms recently and clearly thinks it's a great idea.

Doors open at 6.30pm with the first boxers expected to take to the ring at 7.30pm. An action packed night is surely on the cards at this event.

Thanks has been extended to all local businesses who have supported the event and sponsored prizes.
