LIFFORD Strabane AC's senior athlete Garreth McCullagh took to the start line of the men's 3K race at the 2018 edition of the Brooks Armagh International Road Race recently, which is ranked as the best and most popular road race in the world.

He had another fantastic race as his impressive racing form continues finishing in the super fast time of 9:38, winning the M40+ category.

Sunday a mammoth number of runners and walkers alike take to the village of Raphoe to show their support at the fundraiser for 5yr old Kelsey Barnett.

The race organisers anticipated a strong crowd of up to 500, nearly double that turned out to support this very worthy cause. Lifford Strabane AC's race organiser Brendan O'Donnell oversaw the chip timing at this race alongside club members whom assisted with race registration.

Despite the persistent rain it failed to dampen the true community spirit that was felt throughout.

It must have been one of the most largely supported 5K charity events in Donegal to date, with support from all local and surrounding running clubs in the area taking to the start line.

Lifford Strabane AC were represented by over 20 runners/walkers at this event.

First to the finish line for the club was the extremely talented juvenile athlete Brandon McGrinder with an impressive second overall in a fantastic time of 17:40.

First senior male club athlete to the finish line was James Stevenson. James placed 16th overall in a super time of 19.34. Chris Cuskelly was next to the line for the club in a great time of 21:20. Third senior athlete home for the club was Raymond Hoynes still suffering with an ongoing persistent injury finished in a fine time of 22:04.

For the ladies it was the ever-resilient Linda McGrath in a super time of 21:19, claiming second lady overall. The second senior club female finisher was making her debut in the Lifford Strabane AC vest was newcomer Irene McNulty, who finished in a time of 25:40. Caroline Dillon was third senior lady finisher for the club in 28:10.

Lifford Strabane AC's Ellie McCurdy was the winner of the juvenile female category overall in a time of 28:33 with fellow club mate Farrah Stevenson taking second place in a time of 28:40.

Second juvenile male club finisher was Wilson Craig in 25:14 and third juvenile male club finisher making it to the finish line in 28:01 was James Bell Other news An awards night will take place on Friday, February 23, in the Fir Trees Strabane.

It will also commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Lifford AC which is now known as Lifford Strabane AC. This night is about celebrating the talent that Lifford Strabane AC are gifted with and the successes of their fellow sports personnel.

All athletes are encouraged to attend the awards ceremony which is destined to be a great night of celebration!

Pre-ordered club gear is now ready for collection. Thanks to all whom took advantage of the collection nights organised. Can anyone with items to collect message the clubs facebook page to arrange collection. All goods must be paid in full on collection.

The final race of the Spring Series will take place this Sunday, February 25. Race starts at 10:30am.

Juvenile Training continues Monday and Wednesday at 6:30pm .

Walking Group continues Mondays and Wednesday at 6:30pm.

Adult Training continues Tuesday and Thursday 6:45pm.
