Dergview defeat overshadowed by injury.

DERGVIEW suffered a 5-1 defeat to HW Welders at Tillysburn Park on Saturday in a game that was overshadowed by a serious first half injury to defender Mattie Buchanan.

Buchanan clashed heads with Welders striker David Rainey, which alarmingly triggered a seizure.

The game was postponed for 20 minutes as Buchanan was treated and brought to Royal Victoria Hospital by ambulance. He was able to return home from hospital later on Saturday night after a number of checks.

Rainey had given the hosts the lead in the seventh minute and they held a 1-0 lead until the break, with Ryan Campbell and Adam Buchanan coming close for Dergview.

The game remained tight until the final third when Rainey added his second, before Ryan Deans scored Welders' third in the 64th minute. Ross Arthurs made it 4-0 with 15 minutes to go to end the game as a contest.

Garth Falconer's fine goal from distance was a consolation prize for Richard Clarke's men as Rainey completed his treble in the closing stages.

Dergview remain a point ahead of Lurgan Celtic at the foot of the Championship table, and they welcome Newry City to Darragh Park on Friday night at 8pm.
