Lorraine taking on Dublin Marathon for worthy cause.

A PLUMBRIDGE woman is taking on the Dublin City Marathon to raise vital funds for a playgroup that was severely damaged in the excessive floods last month.

Lorraine McGrinder will be running the 26.2 miles in Dublin next Sunday in aid of the Jack and Jill Community Playgroup in Plumbridge.

The facility was destroyed in the recent floods that tore through the region, and has been since been operating from temporary single room accommodation.

Lorraine is hoping she can raise enough money to help the group rent a portacabin.

"The floods just tore through the place," said Lorraine, who recalled the extent of the damage caused by the substantial rainfall that occurred at the the end of August. "The place was completely gutted. There were toys and bikes that were just washed away by a river of mud, and six foot of water washed into the building." Lorraine had intended to run in the Dublin Marathon last year, to be her first marathon, but was ruled out through injury. She eventually made her marathon debut in Derry in June, and was running smaller races, however continued to be hampered by niggling injuries.

"I was off for a month, and had no training, but I did a five miler in Monaghan, then 13 miles thwe week after, then kept building it up from there. I'm as ready as I can be!" she joked.

Lorraine has been supported by her clubmates at Lifford Strabane Athletic Club. The Playgroup is also raising money via a Just Giving pageonline, as well as hosting a concert on October 26 "I hope the playgroup gets up and running as it really is a much-ndeeded facility in this area. We are a small village and we depend on a lot of help, so all the help is hugely appreciated.

Hopefully we can help other people out as well when they are dealing with a disatser like a flood."
