Local postman Conal ‘delivers’ again.

Thursday, 12 October 2017

CONAL Cooke's amazing golfing season continued on Saturday at Strabane Golf Club as he added the Valerie Manning Club Championship to his litany of wins this season with yet another sub-par round of 66 gross.

This included four birdies and two dropped shots. Playing off a scratch handicap, Conal not only won the club championship gross by eight shots but would also have topped the nett section as well.

The runner-up in the gross section was the very much in-form Barry Patterson (7). He had led the competition for most of the day with a six over par total which indicates how difficult conditions were on the course.

Third gross went to Gary O'Connell (6) with 76. The eventual winner in the Nett section on Saturday was David Friel (10) with 67 nett, with Jim Arbuckle (19) the runner-up, one shot back on 68 Nett. Damian Roarty (9) was third also with 68 Nett.

The over 60s winner was James Callan (12) also with 68 Nett, while the nines went to Seamus Flannagan (27) and to Barry Callaghan (17)

The Thursday club was again reduced to 13 holes owing to the heavy rainfall on Wednesday last.

This week's winner was Vincent Bradley (16) with a solid return of 30 points. Neil Conroy (9) was the runner-up with 29 points, the same total as third-placed Liam Doherty (18).

The gross winner was Damian McGranaghan (6). It is hoped to play week four over 15 holes this week leaving out the loop.

Please note that the BRS System is in use for this competition.

This week's Monday teams event was won by Freddie Patterson, Ronnie Wiley, John McMenamin and Vincent Bradley with 89.5 Nett.

The runners-up were Chris McDermott, Foncie McNally, Robert Bell and Niall Coulter with the same total.

Most of the matchplay competitions have now been settled with the presentation for these at 6pm this coming Sunday.

Congratulations to Michael Arnold who defeated Vincent Bradley at the 18th hole in the final of the Gallagher Cup, and to Kevin Heffernan who just got the better of Brian Kelly at the final hole in the final of the Lawson Cup.

The final of the Worcester Cup is to be played this week where Carole McFeeters and Foncie McNally will play Mary Duffy and Francie Devine in the decider.

Last week's winner in the ladies section was Norma Brogan with 19 points over the ten holes in play, Heather Mitchell took category one, also with 19 points, with Ann McCrory the winner in category two with 18 points.

The ladies summer season wraps up next Tuesday with the annual three ball scramble, followed by a buffet served at 6.30pm.

The Winter Cup is set to start this coming Sunday with 25 pairs currently entered. Please note that the entry fee of £12.50 per player will be deducted from swipe cards this weekend.

Last man Standing resumes this weekend, please have selections to your seller by Friday at 8pm. The winner of the £50 bar credit draw this week was Freddie Patterson, and the shop Lotto draw winner was Mark Quinn.
