RACING action commenced early in the week for some of the Lifford Strabane AC athletes at the annual 'Felixís 5K' on Tuesday, September 12.

The 63 runners/walkers braved heavy rain showers and a very slippery road surface to show their support at this race.

Lifford Strabane AC was represented by nine runners and two walkers from the club's newly formed 'Walking Group'.

Leading the troops to the finish line was the ever consistent Claire McGuigan, winner of the ladies race finishing third overall in a superb time of 19:30. Finishing seventh overall, Fionntan Moore was next to the line.

After a considerable time out of training due to injury and study commitments this was a super result for this young athlete, winner of the Male Junior race in a great time of 20:48. First senior male club athlete Damien Moore finished in a time of 22:41. John McElwaine finished in 23:11, Jay Walsh 23:45, Ursula Coyle, third lady overall and second female club finisher, crossed the line in 24:15, Eddie Breslin 24:55.

First junior female finisher was Mia Maguire, who finished in a smashing time of 26:56, crossing the finish line alongside her father, Liam Maguire.

The two walkers from the walking group were Corina McBrearty and Catherine Breslin.

On Thursday, September 14, the venue was the Feel Good 5K, Derry. This race attracted in excess of 200 runners/walkers.

Lifford Strabane AC was represented by two club athletes at this race. Martin Kelly finished 14th overall in a super time of 21:36 with fellow club athlete Linda McGrath hot on his heels to finish third senior lady overall in a time of 21:38.

On Sunday, September 17, four Lifford Strabane AC athletes made the journey to the City of Belfast to participate in Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon.

Sean Dudgeon was the first club athlete to finish in a fantastic time of 1:23:05, Eddie Kelly finished in a superb time of 1:27:12, Paul Kelly finished the race despite feeling unwell during the race in a great time of 1:28:41.

Solo female representative, Maddy McCurdy, had another strong race, running a personal best in this race in a time of 1:55:50.

Closer to home at the Mulroy College, Milford 10k & 5K Race, Lifford Strabane AC was represented by father and son team, John and Charlie McElwaine. John McElwaine took on the 10k race finishing in a fine time of 46:17, which saw Charlie opting for the 5k distance.

This young athlete was the overall winner of the race finishing in an outstanding time of 17:51.
