Geoff Loughrey's visit

On Thursday evening it was the club's pleasure to welcome Geoff Loughrey back to Strabane. Geoff teaches out of the Michael Bandon School of Golf and played all his junior golf at the club before turning professional. Geoff had brought some of his very talented proteges to play the course before they all made their first appearance at the North of Ireland Championship this week at Portrush. They teamed them up with some of Strabane's own up and coming junior players.

The students, who hailed from Holland ,Wales, England, South Korea, Austria and Ireland, all thoroughly enjoyed the course with much praise for the wonderful greens. The lads held their own mini tournament and it was won by 16-year-old Jake Hapgood. playing off a +3 handicap. He got to the turn with two birdies at the first and sixth holes and came back with a further five birdies to shoot an incredible 62 gross, which would without doubt have been a course record if it had of been in a club competition.

Vice-Captain Frankie Houston presented their trophy to Jake wishing all the lads the very best of luck for this week's championship at Portrush and thanking Geoff for bringing the players to Strabane.

Team news

In club teams news this week our All-Ireland Fourball team comfortably made it through to the last eight were they will now meet Letterkenny GC. Eddie McHugh's side were much too strong on Sunday for Foyle GC winning the first four matches and having the other game then called in.

Pat Corry's JB Carr team hold a 4-1 advantage over Concra Wood from Castleblaney after Monday's encounter and will have a tough task ahead at the Co. Monaghan venue next week.

The 50 bar credit winner this week was Michael Neeson. This Saturday is Lady Captain's Day at the club, and there will be a 13 holes gents competition in the evening.
