MOUNTJOY United took Division One side Killen Rangers all the way in their Mulhern Cup first round tie at Lisnagirr Road, with Killen eventually holding their nerve in a penalty shootout.

Killen helped themselves to two goals in the opening eight minutes thanks to a Trevor Crompton brace, but Mountjoy pulled a goal back through Stuart Graham with seven minutes on the clock. Then on 90 minutes, Stephen Montgomery fired in a cracking volley to level the game and force extra time.

Mountjoy's Frazer would hit the woodwork in the additional period, while John long had to deny Graham Young a winner at the other end.

Spot kicks ensued, and the game was won when David Ward brilliantly saved Gregory Dickson's kick, and Scott Sproule stepped up to put away the winning penalty and send Killen through to a second round tie with Strathroy Harps
