STRABANE Athletic suffered another defeat on their travels, as Rosemount reversed the result from earlier in the season with a 3-1 home victory.

The first half was a tightly fought contest which saw Athletic create the first chance but McGrinder's fine strike was ruled out for an off-side. At the other end, Crossan should have opened the scoring but whilst Boggs saved his initial shot, the striker blazed the rebound wide from close range.

There were very few chances in the half but in the last minute, the visitors did threaten down the right wing with Conwell racing on to a fine pass by Gallagher and although he got to the by-line, his cross for McGrinder was too close to the keeper who collected the ball six yards from goal.

The deadlock was broken 10 minutes after the restart when Williamson headed home from two yards following a quality corner kick delivery. Athletic were forced to make several changes, losing Bonner and Gallagher to injury which left the team unsettled for a period but when Lynch was pushed into a more attacking role, the switch was rewarded.

The pacy attacker, collected a pass from McGrinder and this time he picked out Gallagher with a 'perfect pass which was comfortably slotted home for 1-1.

The game looked set for a draw as neither team really dominated but in the final 15 minutes, following some sluggish play and cheap fouls by Athletic, Rosemount regained the lead. A hopeful drive by Williamson, striking a free-kick from 40 yards, wrong-footed Athletic keeper, Boggs.

The home side defended with determination and denied Athletic any sniff of a second equaliser. The closest the visitors came was a series of corners which when the ball fell to McGrinder, the referee intervened with another off-side whistle.

Rosemount secured the three points with the last kick of the game when McCormick smashed the ball into the net following a goal-mouth scramble which saw keeper Boggs sustain an unfortunate leg injury.

Things don't get easier for Athletic, with their next fixture away, against league leaders Creggan Swifts.
