STRABANE mixed martial arts star James Gallagher will be heading to Belfast as Bellator makes it's way to Northern Ireland for the first time.

The company's CEO, Scott Coker, revealed in an interview ESPN that undefeated prospect Gallagher (5-0) is expected appear on the card against a yet to be determined opponent, at what will be billed as 'Bellator 173'

Gallagher, known as 'The Strabanimal', maintained his perfect record when he defeated American Anthony Taylor with a rear naked choke in the third round of the Bellator 169 co-main event in Dublin in December 2016.

Following that fight, Coker hinted that Gallagher would be in line for a shot at a title belt in 2017. 20-year-old Gallagher, who trains with Conor McGregor's coach John Kavangh at SBG Ireland, agreed while also hinting of future action closer to home.

Yeah that sounds right, I d agree with him (Coker), Gallagher told reporters at Bellator 169.

"There's another fight lined up at the start of next year, I can't say anything yet but I'm having another fight and it's going to be even better, it's going to be in my part of the world.

But it would look well wouldn t it, this Gucci belt here is getting out of play a little bit, I want that world title, remarked the Strabane man.
