Son’s win a ‘beautiful Christmas present’ for dad Andy thumbnailAndy Gallagher with his son, James, pictured before the Bellator 169 press conference.

"Absolutely ecstatic. One of the proudest moments of my life."

Those were the words of Andy Gallagher after his son's victory at Bellator 169 in Dublin last Friday night.

As ever, Andy was part of James' corner team on the night, and he was visibly overjoyed at the conclusion of the fight with American Anthony 'Pretty Boy' Taylor.

“James was very casual when he came out," said Andy. "Anthony threw some big hits, and James dodged them. He took his time and wore him down.

"He got on his back, still very patient, got his choke in and finished it. Job done.

"We were always confident of James' ability to put on a good show."

Andy spoke of the supporters who travelled down from Strabane to support James in Dublin for what was his Bellator 'homecoming' in front of a packed out 3 Arena.

"There was something like 150 that came up from Strabane tonight. Some took a day off work, spent money on tickets and hotels, and we're really proud of that.

"Absolutely amazing. It would remind you of a few years ago when Conor McGregor walked out, they lifted the roof for James tonight. James is carrying the flag out there.

"James carries the 'Strabanimal' name everywhere he goes. The Strabanimal is going to be a global name, get the tourism board on it.

"We've supported James since he was 13 years of age. We knew what his abilities were, and we're super proud of him. It was a beautiful Christmas present."
