Local schools make a big splash

LOCAL swimmers from Strabane Controlled Primary School, St Columbas PS Clady, Holy Cross College Strabane, Christian Brothers Omagh and St Columbus College Ballybofey made a big slash at the Ulster Schools Cup and Championships.

These were held at Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex, Bangor, Co.Down over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, October 15 and 16.

Hosted locally by Swim Ulster on behalf of Swim Ireland, this regional championship gala marks a key event in the swimming calendar. With all those swimmers, which achieve a qualifying time at this regional gala, automatically ensure that their school will progress to the national Irish Minors Championships at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin, in February 2017.

Strabane Controlled Primary School was represented by Benji Cummings in the 50m Breast Stroke race. Benji secured a qualifying time in this event for boys age 11.

Keila Campbell and Aimee Quigley swam for St Columbas, Clady, in the 50m Backcrawl and the 100m IM events for girls aged 11. Aimee achieved personal best times in both races and Keila secured a qualifying place in both the back crawl and IM events.

Emma O'Mahoney swam for St Columbas PS Clady, in the 50m Breast Stroke and the 50m Front Crawl. In only her second competitive gala, Emma secured a qualifying place in the breaststroke for girls aged 10 and a personal best in the front crawl.

Christian Brothers, Omagh, was represented by Daniel O'Mahoney in the 50m Breast Stroke and the 50m Front Crawl. Daniel secured personal best times in both events for boys age 13.

Holy Cross College, Strabane, was represented by Dillion Reid in the 100m Butterfly and the 200m IM. Dillion secured personal best times in both events for boys age 14

St Columbus College, Ballybofey, was represented by Alissah Cullen in the100m Breaststroke and the 100m Freestyle races. Allisah secured personal best times in both events for girls age 14.
