HONOURS ended even in the Minor League top of the table clash between Strabane Rugby Club's second string and Armoy at the Meadows on Saturday.
The pitch was frozen on Friday, but an amazing thaw overnight left the ground playable on Saturday.
The first 20 minutes was evenly contested. A Strabane passing movement unfortunately broke down in midfield and an Armoy centre picked up the loose ball and ran through for an unconverted try.
Worse was to come for the home side, as the visiting pack drove forward and over the line for a second try. The kick was good and Strabane were 12-0 down at the interval.
The home team came out after the break determined to score points. Winning good ball from a scrum, the ball was moved quickly along the backline for winger, Alastair Gore, to run clear for a welcome Strabane try to reduce the margin to seven points.
Continued pressure brought Strabane to the visitors' line. From the resultant scrum, number eight, Johnnie Robinson, picked up and forced his way over the line in typical style. Simon Mowbray added the extras and the teams were level once more.
On time, Mowbray tried a long range penalty, but his effort fell just short and the game ended all- square.
This coming Saturday the first team have a top of the table clash at home against Ophir, while the seconds travel to Tirconaill.
