Strabane and Sion Swifts United have to settle for share of spoils after missed chances

SSSU 2. NFC Kesh 2.
MISSED chances proved costly for Strabane and Sion Swifts United (SSSU) during their home Northern Ireland Intermediate League encounter with NFC Kesh at Melvin on Saturday.
A fairly insipid first half, which saw both sides struggle on the bumpy playing surface, saw Kesh engineer a 2-1 lead at the break.
Mark Jones put the visitors ahead before Aaron Gillespie found the top corner direct from a flag kick to restore parity on the half hour. However, with SSSU not firing on all cylinders in the first half, Kesh were able to restore their advantage before the break when Jones caught Dean Arnold by surprise with a neat turn and snap shot from the edge of the box.
The second half saw SSSU improve dramatically. With Kevin Gallagher moved into the centre of midfield and Gillespie out wide, the home side began to control the game.
The normally clinical Conor Carlin was having an off day, however, missing two one-on-ones, before Gallagher levelled matters with a left-footed drive in the 75th minute.
The same player could have given them the lead, but two headers from corner-kicks sailed off target and Tom Mullan thought he had won it in the last minute, only for the Kesh keeper to make a stunning top corner save.
Despite only managing a point, SSSU are now unbeaten in the league in their last three games and travel to Ardstraw this coming Saturday in confident mood.
