AT the annual Strabane 10K road race on Saturday Omagh Harriers' Stephen Duncan, Julie Butler and Sara Moore all secured podium positions.
Over 250 athletes turned out for the race which is mostly routed around the country roads on the outskirts of the town. Omagh Harriers dominated once again with over 10 of the club athletes finishing in the top 40.
Stephen Duncan had a comfortable victory with no one to match his stride or pace as he cruised home in 31.21 minutes, well ahead of the Declan Reed who finished in 32.49 minutes.
Julie Butler, however, was met with opposition from experienced Donegal athlete Helena McCrossan and had to settle for second. Butler lead from the start and thought she had shaken off the initial challenge from McCrossan at the 2k mark, but at the 6k stage McCrossan was hot on her heels and after 8k she edged ahead and broke away from Butler to cross the finish line in 39.12minutes, with Butler 17 seconds behind.
Young Sara Moore, in her first 10k race, held on to third position throughout the race finishing in 40.30 minutes. Initially a little apprehensive of competing at this distance she proved she is a strong and very talented young athlete with a promising athletic career ahead of her.
Next Omagh Harrier athlete home was Jason Walsh in 35.28 minutes, closely followed by Conor Moore who crossed the line in 36.07 minutes.
Team mates Conor McCarroll and Peter Neil matched each others stride and worked together, with McCarroll edging ahead finishing in 36.49 minutes, followed by Neil in 37.04 minutes.
In Seanie Meyler's first competitive outing since the Belfast Marathon he finished third over 40 male in 37.57 minutes. Terry Canning finished 22nd overall, crossing the line in 38.31 minutes.
Gavin Winters and Sean McElroy finished in the top 40. Gavin finished ahead in 40.18 minutes closely followed by Sean in 40.27 minutes. Sean was placed fourth over 50.
Albert Law finished in 44.25 minutes ahead of his son, Kyle Law, who crossed the line in 45.39 minutes.
Meanwhile, in the ladies, Angeline McCain put in a good performance and finished in 47.14 minutes. Jennifer Morton, who has been competing regularly, finished in 50.23 minutes. Club team-mate, Bernie O'Donnell, despite carrying an injury, finished in 51.31 minutes.
