High School under-14s do the double!

STRABANE High School under-14 cricketers did the double by winning the Northern Ireland U14 Cup by four wickets against Campbell College and then the Derriaghy Cup by defending Limavady GS by six wickets the following day.
In the N Ireland cup played at Strabane, Campbell won the toss and elected to bat getting off to a solid start through Knowles and Allen before Allen was run out for eight.
Campbell continued to bat well through Park and Knowles but each going when they got into the teens. The main contributor was Owens who scored a very good 45 before being judged LBW to Nixon. Wickets fell at regular intervals with no batsman except Morrow getting into double figures. The Campbell innings closed at 136 for eight. Best of the Strabane bowlers was W McBrine who returned figures of 3-16, and he was well supported by R Nixon and G McClintock.
In reply, Strabane got of to a good start through G McClintock who scored 54 and W McBrine who scored 25.
This laid the foundation for Strabane who kept the score moving through contributions from L Kelly 21 and Captain D Campbell 21. Strabane had a mini collapse before R Nixon 9 no and A McDonald 14 no finished the match giving Strabane victory by four wickets.
Meanwhile, Strabane High School won the Derriaghy Cup by defending Limavady GS by six wickets in Limavady.
Winning the toss and electing to bat Limavady got of to a slow but steady start through A Pierce and R Allen who scored runs on each side of the wicket. R Allen was the first out after being bowled by W McClintock for 27. The remainder of the Limavady batsmen were unable to get settled with wickets falling at regular intervals due to good bowling for R Nixon and G McClintock.
A Pierce battled very well for a solid 41 before holeing out to D Campbell of the bowling of R Nixon. The Limavady innings closed at 95 for 6.
The Strabane openers W McBrine and G McClintock set about the Limavady bowling scoring runs quickly. McBrine was out for a good 25 to a ball that kept low. G McClintock continued to score quickly before being bowled by A Pierce to a ball that cut back.
After this solid start Strabane were not put under pressure and reached their target with eight overs and six wickets to spare.
