Strabane woman enjoys second slice of lottery luck after winning a cool 25,000 euro thumbnail

FRIDAY the 13th proved not to be so unlucky for a Strabane woman when she scooped a cool 25,000 euro on a scratch card.
The date is often considered an unlucky day for some but this certainly isn't true for retiree, Kathleen Falconer from the town, who got her second slice of National Lottery luck having won the top prize on a Holiday Cash scratch card.
Kathleen and her husband, Liam, are still celebrating with their latest win coming 12 years after they enjoyed a trip to New York courtesy of the National Lottery as part of TV gameshow, 'Winning Streak'.
Sitting in the National Lottery's 'Winner's Room', Mrs Falconer revealed that she and her husband, who also accompanied her to the National Lottery headquarters with other excited members of their family, were one of the lucky few to win a trip to the 'Big Apple' back in 2006 on Winning Streak scratch cards.
On this trip they were joined by legendary Winning Streak show presenter, Marty Whelan.
Speaking of her delight at her latest win, Kathleen, said she was over-the-moon adding that she is hoping it's third time lucky soon for the happy couple.

She said: "The first time we learned we had won the New York trip 12 years ago I was gobsmacked.

“It was an amazing holiday - the type that is once in a lifetime and Marty was lovely and we all had a blast.

“I could never have predicted that a few years later I would have won €25,000 on another scratch card!"

She bought her ticket in Mac's Books & Newsagents on Upper Main Street in the nearby town of Buncrana in Co Donegal - a place the couple frequent.

Kathleen won her first holiday after sending in the stubs off her National Lottery's Winning Streak scratch cards and was drawn to go on a luxury holiday along with a number of other lucky players.

She hasn't ruled out returning soon for another prize. She continued: "Hopefully this won't be the last time we will be in here as I'm off to buy my lotto ticket for this weekend's draw!

“Who knows I might meet Marty again and be on the Winning Streak TV show soon?," she quipped.

The exciting win comes just six months after Lotto fever gripped Strabane and East Donegal when it was revealed that a lucky punter had become a multi-millionaire after buying a ticket at a filling station in Lifford.

It took the cool headed winner over a month to come forward and claim his prize sparking a flurry of speculation over the his identity.

When he did come forward to collect a Lotto jackpot winning cheque worth a massive 4,434,994 euro, the winner decided to remain anonymous but revealed the golden ticket was kept in the glove box of the car for four-and-a-half weeks!

He hit the jackpot on Saturday, January 13, and the magic 'quick pick' ticket was bought at Daly's Topaz on the Letterkenny Road in Lifford.

Meanwhile, another lucky scratch card winner through the National Lottery doors on Friday claimed the top prize of €50,000 on the €5 All Cash Platinum scratch card.

Amazingly, this was her second time to win €50,000 on the same scratch card after she claimed another top prize in 2013. The lucky winner from Dublin who wishes to keep her win private was stunned when she found out that she had won her second cash cash prize in five years.

Just like Kathleen, you can get in on that winning feeling by picking up a Holiday Cash scratch card in-store today.

Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on scratch cards and all National Lottery games go back to Good Causes in the areas of sport, youth, health, community, arts, heritage and the Irish language.

In total more than €5 billion has been raised for Good Causes since the National Lottery was established 30 years ago.
